Description
The estate Huis Ten Bosch was built in 1645 by Frederik Hendrik van Oranje-Nassau and his wife Amalia von Solms-Braunfels. Pieter Post was the primary architect. When Frederik Hendrik died in 1647, Amalia turned the estate into a monument in honour of her late husband.
The main hall, known as the ‘Oranjezaal’ is filled with paintings that glorify the life of Frederik Hendrik. The hall contains the works of the artists Gerard van Honthorst, Jacob Jordaens, Thomas Willeboirts Bosschaert, Theodoor van Thulden, Caesar van Everdingen, Salomon de Bray, Pieter Soutman, Gonzales Coques, Pieter de Grebber, Adriaen Hanneman, and Jan Lievens.
