Minutes of the Com[m]ittee

Dr King, Sr John Philips, Mr Shute, Mr Mayo, Coll[onel] Nicholson
Dr King in the Chair
Prayers
Coll Nicholson reported that he and the secretary had met Mr Carpenter & Mr Tryon according to the Desire of the Com[m]ittee, and had advis’d with the said Gentlemen ab[ou]t/the Proper Power & Instructions to be given to the Societys Attornys & Manager, & that the s[ai]d Gentlemen were of opinion \that/ the usual \suitable/ Powers as are given by Merchants & other Private Persons to their Attornys should be given to the those that represent the society, & such Instructions or Articles enter’d into by the Manager as the Form contains w[hi]ch they deliver’d to the secretary, but in regard that Mr Smalridge the society’s Manager is at present in possession of that office by the Authority of Coll. Codrington the Heir at Law, they are of opinion that the Articles or Instructions for the Manager should be sent to the Attorneys & not deliver’d by them to the Manager til the Attorneys are in possession of the Estate bequeath’d to the society w[hi]ch they Advise should be the first Instructions given to the s[ai]d Attorneys – Then the s[ai]d Articles were read and approved, \& agreed to/ only the manager to be obliged quar to send a quarterly acco[un]t insted of half yearly

Agreed that Mr Edwards be desired to review the \s[ai]d/ articles for the said Manager, and to mention in the powers given to the attorneys, that they give up
the Estate which they shall receive according to those powers into the hands of the said Manager for the use of the society according to those articles.

Col. Nicholson also reported from the said Mr Carpenters of Mr Tryon a that it is their opinion that a Letter of Credit shou’d be sent to the said society’s said attorneys which the said Gentlemen proffer’d upon the society’s request to do give

order’d that the Secretary order’d that the Secretary do draw up the a Report from the several Resolutions of the Com[m]ittee relating to the Business of Gen. Codrington & lay it before the Society at next Meeting.
