John Senex, A New Map of London (1720)

View Fullscreen

This map is marked with the locations of several buildings in London and Westminster that were used by the SPG in its early years. These include the home of SPG secretary John Chamberlayne, in Petty France, where all correspondence to the Society was addressed, and the locations of committee meetings that took place in the SPG's first two years. The SPG did not have a physical headquarters, and the committee accordingly met at different locations across the cities of London and Westminster. This map shows the extent of movement across London, with the SPG convening at locations across the city and its suburbs.
